How do you transport a GI?
Two simple ways of folding your gi – just like the Japanese. Instructions:
- Put your folded pants over your open jacket.
- Fold the jacket sides over the pants, then fold back the sleeves.
- Roll up the jacket/pants from the bottom.
- Tie your belt around the gi sausage.
- Swing over your shoulder and travel the world!
Can you grab clothes in Jiu Jitsu?
Gi Jiu-Jitsu is grappling with the use of a traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uniform or Gi. It allows you to grab the clothing of your opponent to control or submit them. In No Gi Jiu-Jitsu, you don’t wear the traditional uniform. Instead, you wear shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard.
How do you clean a GI?
Always wash your gi in cold water, 90-100 degrees maximum. If your gi is a little bit too big and you actually want it to shrink a little bit (sleeves), you can wash it at 110-120 degrees, but NEVER over that temperature.
Can a GI go in the dryer?
Don’t throw them in the dryer UNLESS you’re intentionally trying to shrink it. Shrinking is not the only risk when putting your gi in the dryer. Putting it in the dryer one too many times will soften it up, and weaken it.
How long does it take a GI to dry?
In highly humid areas with low temperatures and very little air circulation, your gi can take up to 48 hours or more to dry properly if at all. Slow drying your gi will often result in your gi smelling damp. If your gi is hung outside in the sun on a warm day with a breeze, it should dry within 30 – 60 min.

Do you wear a cup in BJJ?
Yes, while the occasional stray knee or elbow can come into contact with a man’s bits a pieces during jiu jitsu training, but it’s really relatively rare. The discomfort of a wearing a cup during jiu jitsu training far outweighs any protective benefits. Wearing a cup during jiu jitsu competitions is illegal.
Can you wear knee pads in jiu jitsu?
Almost all sports where excessive movement is required pose a health risk for your joints. The same is with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. All grappling disciplines take a toll on body joints, and that is why quality equipment – specifically protective knee pads – can help to prevent injuries.
