Can 4 year olds do BJJ?
We recommend that children start at 4 years old. However, since no two kids are the same, and there can be significant differences in coordination and maturity, we are willing to evaluate children younger than 4.

What age should kids start doing Jiu Jitsu? We recommend kids start training jiujitsu when they are 4 years or older, although this is not a strict rule. If they’re a bit younger, bring them down to our Little Nippers class on Thursdays at 9.30am to see how they go!
Can you be too old to start BJJ?
The answer is simple: “ NO! ” We have students over 40 years old on the mat training with us, “You are NOT too old to start training Jiu-jitsu, but you will get way older when you do NOT train jiu-jitsu”. A quick look at our BJJ classes pictures you will see a number of BJJ students who are over 40 years of age.
What is the difference between Karate and Jiu-Jitsu?
While Karate has a focus on punching and hand-based strikes, and Taekwondo focuses on (often spectacular) kicking combinations, Jiu-Jitsu is about subduing an opponent or aggressor. This is done with wrestling-style takedowns, position holds or, in extreme circumstances, submission attacks.

Compared to other high impact martial arts styles, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is typically much safer. There is no striking in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so there is a much smaller chance for serious injuries like head trauma, broken noses, and more. This makes the injury rate lower than mixed martial arts, boxing, judo, and more.
